The policeman Frank Bullitt has to protect an important witness who is supposed to testify against a powerful crime organization. When the man is then assassinated, Bullitt keeps quiet about his death to gain time to build a case. Peter Yates’ Bullitt is considered a modern action-movie classic. It established Steve McQueen as a superstar in the genre and set technical standards in movie making, especially the 10 minute long chase sequence, where the daring McQueen himself sat behind the wheel. Bullitt was awarded with the Oscar for film editing in 1968.
